Be a part of the effort to help more students go to college! This program focuses on informing and preparing high school students who are eligible to graduate but are not currently passing the more stringent TSI/College Readiness Standard. Students will learn about the College Readiness Standard through our speaker series. During these information sessions, students will be invited to attend volunteer-led tutoring sessions to prepare for the entrance exams. Students benefit from meeting community professionals and college students who bring relevance and importance to this process. Volunteer in one or several of the following areas:
Classroom Speakers: Volunteers will speak to students about the benefits of a college education and what it takes to be prepared for college. Volunteer speakers are trained and provided with suggestions, but are encouraged to share their own experiences about their paths toward college and career.
Test Prep Tutors: Volunteers will guide small collaborative study groups with 3-4 students grouped by their specific academic needs for college entrance exams. Study materials including individualized study plans are provided. Tutoring sessions will be offered monthly from October through May; there will be during school and after school opportunities for tutoring. Volunteers may indicate a specific subject to tutor.
